Renault Twizy, the ultra-compact two-seater, one behind the other, rear-engine electric car, (dimensions: 2.34m long, 1.24m wide and 1.45m tall, weighs less than 450 kilograms), will participate in a trial for environmentally friendly urban transport in Israel.
Renault Twizy was designed from the outset as an ultramobile all-electric two-seater vehicle (TWIN and EASY). The Twizy has a range of 100 km over a standard urban cycle and can be fully recharged in 3 ½ hours from a domestic socket, using a spiral cable located under the flap at the front of the car. Renault Twizy is equipped with 6.1 kWh lithium-ion batteries located under the front seats.
Renault had launched the Twizy in France last March and in the UK last April. Renault is aiming to expand sales of Twizy to Turkey, Israel, Japan and Singapore as well as South America after selling 6,500 vehicles in Europe.
The rear-engine car is part of Renault policy to rollout a broad range of electric cars which will include other models called Fluence, Kangoo and Zoe which are expected in Europe in 2013 and beyond.
The Israeli government decided recently to establish new standards and service for L category cars, to which the Twizy belongs, and consider tax breaks and other benefits to encourage the use of mini-electric cars in urban areas.
