According to a press release issued last week, Transportation Ministry Director General Mr. Salman Ben - Tzion gave the go ahead for the Ayalon Expressway to be extended northward towards Netanya.
The new express route is to terminate after the city of Netanya, and according to the ministry the project's cost is around NIS 1.6 billion.
The present Ayalon Expressway begins south of Rishon Le-zion and terminates in Herzliya. Now that the green light to extend the Expressway has been given, the highway will become Israel's fourth major artery to cross central Israel from north to south.
The decision to extend the Expressway was based on the conclusions of a nongovernmental team of engineers and economists appointed by the Transportation Ministry.
