Cabinet Approves Reduction in the Price of a Liter of Gasoline

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: "we have witnessed a constant upward movement over the past year as a result of the sanctions on Iran and other factors"

The Cabinet approved a reduction in the price of a liter of gasoline as follows: Full-service – from NIS 8.15 to NIS 8.00, self-service – from NIS 7.94 to NIS 7.79.

The price reduction will be funded by a Finance Ministry plan for greater efficiency in Government ministries.

Shas and Yisrael Beytenu ministers opposed the fuel price reduction.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told ministers, “The Government does not control fuel prices. However, we have witnessed a constant upward movement over the past year as a result of the sanctions on Iran and other factors. We are trying to moderate the increases in order to make it easier on the public. I wish all Israelis a Happy Passover. They should travel on the roads, enjoy the scenic vistas and pay a bit less than they might have otherwise if we had not intervened today.”

Finance Minister Dr. Yuval Steinitz said, “The Cabinet decision allows the Finance Ministry to avoid harming the expenditures framework or the deficit as a result of intervening in the price of fuel. Thus it is with responsible governments.
