New regulations issued last week by the Israeli Transport Ministry calls for all light diesel vehicles to meet the Euro 4 standard. Based on the newly published regulation the Ministry will only permit import of diesel commercial vehicles weighing 3.5 tons and over provided they meet the Euro 4 emission standards.
Emission standards are requirements that set specific limits to the amount of pollutants that can be released into the environment. Many emission standards focus on regulating pollutants released by automobiles and other transport vehicles.
European emission standards are sets of requirements defining the acceptable limits for exhaust emissions of new vehicles sold in EU member states. The standards are defined in a series of European Union directives staging the progressive introduction of increasingly stringent standards.
Currently, emissions of NOX, HC,carbon monoxide (CO), and particular matter are regulated for most vehicle types, including cars, lorries, trains, tractors and similar machinery.. For each vehicle type, different standards apply. Gideon Siterman, director-general of the Ministry of Transport said that the new emission standard will greatly reduce truck and bus air pollution and improve the quality of air in the city centers.
