Government's incentive to replace old cars

according to the sources this will result in 6,000-11,000 such cars a year being taken off of Israel’s road network and replaced by younger vehicles causing less pollution

Sources close to the Finance Ministry said last week that the Finance and Environmental Protection Ministries were about to announce a new initiative aiming at getting older vehicles, with poor pollution standards, off of Israeli roads network.

According to the new scheme, the government will offer about NIS 3,000 to any car owner who agrees to discard a car manufactured in 1984 or earlier.

This according to the sources will result in 6,000-11,000 such cars a year being taken off of Israel’s road network and replaced by younger vehicles causing less pollution.

The annual direct cost of the program to the state is estimated at NIS 25-70 million.
According to Finance Ministry, 70% of the old car owners will purchase used but "younger" cars. This move will, according to plan, bring about a chain reaction.

Sellers of older vehicles will purchase newer cars, so the end result will be new, safer and more environmentally friendly cars on the road.
