Israel Airport Authority: Nitzana Border Crossing re-opened

The border terminal was closed for a week following the collapse of the Nitzana Bridge due to the heavy storms
 
Israel Airport Authority announced last week that the Nitzana Border Crossing had been re-opened.
 
The border terminal was closed for a week following the collapse of the Nitzana Bridge due to the heavy storms. The unusual heavy rain resulted from two different weather systems which came into contact with each other, creating conditions for heavy rains and high winds. Hot, humid air moved in from the equatorial region, while cool air moved in from Turkey, creating unstable weather conditions.
 
Israel temporarily closed its southern border crossings with Egypt and Jordan due to rains and expected flooding along the border.
 
Transport Ministry instructed government agencies to re-build a new Nitzana Bridge, an operation which will last several months and will have an estimated cost of NIS20 million.
 
The Nitzana Border Crossing is an international border crossing between Al Uja, Egypt and Nitzana, Opened in 1982.
 
The terminal is used for the passage of goods and cargo of various kinds, including:
Food products (mainly to the Palestinian Authority area(: Chemicals, Raw paper products,
Cement and building materials, Seeds and grains, Frozen vegetables, Chilled fish, Textile products, Nylon products, Electrical goods, Spices, Glass.
