The Israel Railways carried 4.1 million tons during the first six months of 2007, an 8%  increase compared to the same period last year.

The half yearly report published by the railway company indicates that the number of freight trains in June 2007 was 12.1% higher compared to June 2006, 1,117 freight trains compared to 996.

Most of Israel Railways transportation activities focus on transportation of the following: phosphates, potassium, coal, nuclear substances, gravel, containers, phosphoric acid, sulfur and crude oil.

The Israel Railway serves as an overland bridge between the ports of Haifa and Ashdod. Freight handling operations by the Israel Railway significantly reduces the overload on the roads, and thus contributes to the achievement of other national objectives, such as: reducing the number of road accidents and improving the quality of life, safety and environmental quality.
