Highway 6 ‎, widely known as the Trans-Israel Highway or Cross-Israel Highway
officially dedicated as the Yitzhak Rabin Highway, reached last week the city of  Kiryat Gat.

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, who inaugurated the 23-kilomter section of the highway between Soreq and Kiryat Gat, said that the government regards road building as top priority and would continue to invest billions of shekels in the development of Israel's roads infrastructure.

The new section brings the toll highway to a length of 110 kilometers. The next section of the highway between Kirayt Gat and the Ahuzam junction near Beit Kama (section 20), is due to open in six months.

The aim of the Highway is to provide an efficient north-south transportation corridor
in the country while allowing drivers to bypass the traffic-congested Tel Aviv and central region.

Travel on the new section of the highway will be free for the next six months.
