2,600 vehicles and motorcycles were personally imported in 2010. The drop is attributed to tighter enforcement of motor vehicle standards by the Ministry of Transport
Data released last week by the Tax Authority reported that 2,600 vehicles and motorcycles were personally imported in 2010, 19% fewer than in 2009 and 15% fewer than in 2008.
The drop is attributed to tighter enforcement of motor vehicle standards by the Ministry of Transport, including a ban on the import of certain models, and a reduction of vehicles offered at dumping prices, which characterized the US market in 2008-09.
The drop can also be attributed to aggressive sales campaigns launched by importers of luxury cars aimed at reducing personal imports.
