Israel Railways yearly summary published last week shows that Israel Railways carried 48.5 million passengers in 2014, a 7.5% increase, compared with 45.1 million passengers in 2013.

 

Israel Railways attributed its growth to better service, new routes, more frequent routes, and more stringent adherence to timetables.

 

Last year Israel Railways set a daily record of 196,000 passengers. Israel Railways yearly summary further noted that the average timetable compliance rate in 2014 was 95%, compared with 93% in 2013, 90% in 2012, and 87% in 2011. Railway cargo totaled 7.5 million tons in 2014, compared with 6.7 million tons in the preceding year, a 12% increase.

 

Revenue from cargo transportation amounted to NIS 169 million, up 15%, compared with the preceding year. Israel Railways put 72 double-decker carriages suitable for electrical operation into operation in 2014, and 9,000 new seats were added. 12 new Euro 3200 locomotives also began running.
