Leaders of the Israeli customs brokers' and freight forwarders' umbrella organization met the director general of the Palestinian authority's customs department.
Mr. Shlomo Sharon, chairman of the Israeli federation of freight forwarders and customs clearing agents and Mr. Yoram Arbel, chairman of the Haifa chamber of freight forwarders and clearing agents met Mr. Hatem Yossef to discuss ways to better co-operation with the Palestinian customs department.
Mr. Hatem Yossef outlined the difficulties facing the Palestinian customs department mainly due to lack of qualified personnel.
Mr. Shlomo Sharon said that the Israeli side had agreed in principle to assist the Palestinian customs department in setting up training program in which Palestinian customs employees could get on sight training in the offices of Israeli freight forwarders and customs brokers.
Sharon emphasized the importance of co-operation between the Israeli customs clearing sector and the Palestinian customs department and added that the Israeli federation would do the utmost to provide professional advise and training program.
