Schenker China representative: "The company is committed to zero failures at the Olympics"

The company, which was also behind the production of the Athens Olympics, is dealing with the shipping and handling of most of the equipment to the 2008 Beijing Olympics
 
Yuval Perlman, manager of the air cargo department of Schenker China, came to the Port2Port 2008 international shipping and logistics event straight from Beijing, in order to tell guests at the conference about the complexity of the logistics process behind the production of the largest sporting event in the world – the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
 
Mr. Perlman shocked those present when he began pulling out the numbers with which Schenker China is dealing, according to him, with a commitment of zero failures. We must remember that this is a company that has been behind the logistics processes and the production of the 2004 Athens Olympics.
 
China will cope with a flow of more than half a million people which will arrive in Beijing for the Olympic games this coming August, in a period of three weeks!  Among them are 10,000 athletes who will participate in some 28 different sports. In addition, some 17,000 journalists, photographers and crew members will arrive, who will report on the sports event that is attracting the attention of the world.
 
According to Mr. Perlman, all the equipment that has arrived for the Olympics during the last six months is to leave China within two or three days after the games end. According to Mr.  Perlman, it has still not been finalized by the local authorities whether cargo planes will be allowed to land in Beijing itself or whether the planes will be diverted to a nearby city due to the tremendous traveler traffic to the city.
 
Mr. Perlman added that working opposite the Chinese authorities is not simple, but the company is enjoying extraordinary cooperation regarding import and export permits, and that until March 2009, most of the equipment will be able to leave China without needing additional permits.
