The Be'er Sheva Labor Court rejected last week a petition by Ashdod port workers to control the labor hiring process at the port.

The court found that "the motion was not filed in good faith" The port of Ashdod operations workers' union had asked the The Be'er Sheva Labor Court to instruct the port management to accept new workers according to union directives.

The union argued in their petition that the port management tried to do away with an age-old practices at the port, including a quota stipulating that 50% of all new workers be sons, brothers or cousins of port workers.

Mr. Shaul Rotem Ashdod port director declared following the court decision that"The age of nepotism at Ashdod port has ended and said that the port is about to hire 32 new workers in the coming days. Port of Ashdod management claimed following the verdict that the union attempt to free itself of the fair hiring practice agreement was undignified and costly.
