An increase of 4% in cargo moving through the ports, compared with the same period last year, was registered during the nine months period ( January – September ).
During the nine months period the ports handled 27.7 million tons. The container sector registered a fall of 2% - TEU 1.1, mainly due to a sharp 23% fall in transshipment containers moving through the ports.
Data analysis for the nine months period show that export was up 2% ( 11.9 million tons ) and import up by 6% ( 15.8 million tons).
Mr. Ron, Director General of the Israel Port authority estimated that total growth in cargo movement in the three ports, for the whole 2004, would be 5%.
