Ashdod Port Ltd. announced last week that during the period January to April 2006 it handled TEU 216,867, an increase of 6.4% compared to the parallel period last year.
In a statement issued by the port management Mr. Shuki Sagis noted that during the period the port experienced a 13.5% increase in full container load.
Sagis added that in April 2006 the port experienced a 16.8% increase in container throughput compared to the parallel month last year. This figure represents 23.2% increase in full containers.
Sagis also noted that during the four month period ship's waiting time was reduced by 45.5% compared to the parallel period last year. Ship's turn-round time was reduced by 8%.
Sagis noted however that the full implementation of the TOS (Terminal Operation System), will enable the port to have much better control and more efficient container movement from the container terminal at the waterline to the port gates, thus streamlining work and further reducing ship waiting time.
