A.M.A Associated Maritime Agencies Ltd. informed clients last week that effective immediately it would charge a 9% "congestion charge" to cover expenses caused by the time taken to load and unload ships at Ashdod Port.
The Israeli shipper's council expressed its objection to the surcharge which had immediate effect on costs of import and export.
the president of the Israeli Chamber of Shipping, Mr. Nahum Ganzarsky said he hoped the staff problems at the port of Ashdod would be resolved soon.
A spokesman for the Ashdod port told reporters that the port was recruiting dozens of new staff. He expressed his hope that the new recruits would solve the staff shortage problem.
