Ashdod Port company reported last week a sharp increase in number of export containers moving through the port. The company's report noted that during the four months period; January – April 2007 the number of export containers, in TEU terms, was up 27% compared to the parallel period last year.
The company also noted that the port experienced 15% increase in the number of total containers moving through the port during the first four months and an increase of 13.6% in loaded containers imported to Israel, compared to the number imported containers during the same period last year.
The report also noted that during the first four months the port experienced 7% increase in traffic, imports & exports, compared with 4.6% increase for the country as a whole.
The port market share of total cargo handled by Israel Med ports, in January - April 2007, now stands at 42%.
The report also shows a sharp increase ( 30.8% ) in the number of motor vehicles imported through the port – 19,768 units and an increase of 36.4% in the number of tourists – 10,416 compared to 7,639 tourists in the parallel period last year.
