Ashdod port strike postponed by labor federation

The labor federation argued thatthe main reason for the renewed labor crisis is management's refusal to negotiate with port union leaders over their differences

Histadrut labor federation officials warned last week thata strike at Ashdod port shutting down imports and exports was only a matter of days.

The labour federation argued thatthe main reason for the renewed labor crisis is management's refusal to negotiate with port union leaders over their differences.

The labor federation had already declared an official dispute on January 7th but gave the port management an additional week in order totalk with the union about their demands and thereby prevent a strike.

In a letter sent by the Histadrut labor federationit was noted thatsince the work dispute was declared, management had acted irresponsibly, refusing to negotiate.

Port official called the dispute declaration a "cynical attempt" to force management to hire relatives of union leaders and workers and added that the port management will not give in and that according to his understanding the strike would begin on January 30th.
