At a meeting held last week between Mr. Amos Ron director general of the Israel port company and Mr. Ofer Linczwski CEO of the Israel Railways it was agreed to extend the rail line from the old Ashdod's port to the new Jubilee Port complex and build a new rail cargo terminal at an estimated investment of NIS 130 million.

Following the meeting Ron said that coordinated development of both ports and railway systems would not only improve cargo moving to and from the ports but also help reduce the amount of "heavy and dangerous cargo" being transported along Israel's road system.

Ron and Linczewski also agreed to further deepen strategic cooperation between the two bodies in planning two key infrastructures projects.

According to Israel port company these two projects include the building of a cargo hub in Israel's center and at border crossings that would be connected by rail to the country's main sea ports.

In addition an agreed master plan will be prepared by a team of experts from both companies for the building of a new rail terminal at the expanding Port of Haifa; and a rail line connecting Ashdod with the Port of Eilat.
