This, “in order to save the Israeli shippers millions of Shekels every year”. Brosh emphasized that the situation was unbearable and that the government must intervene

Shraga Brosh, president of the Manufacturers Association of Israel, called last week upon the Minister of Transportion, Shaul Mofaz, and Roni Bar-On, Finance Minister, to get more involved in the running of the ports in order to save the Israeli shippers millions of Shekels every year.

In a letter he sent early last week Brosh emphasized that the situation was unbearable and that the government must intervene.

According to Brosh, Israeli importers and exporters have had to pay extra NIS120 since the beginning of the year. He added that mistakes made by port managements and by port workers directly affected the supply of raw materials to industry and exporters were unable to supply finished products in time.

Long port delays made the shipping sector to apply congestion fees reaching US$55 per TEU in Haifa and US$90 per TEU in Ashdod.

This in itself, according to Brosh, costs extra US$9 million to the Israeli economy.
