Dan Tichon, chairman of the Israel Ports Development & Assets Company handed over last week his resignation to Minister of Transport Meir Sheetrit.
 
In his resignation letter Tichon wrote, “After discovering serious irregularities in the running of the company and systematic damage to the company’s criteria, and due to the fact that the supervisory authorities in the Government Companies Authority and ministries collaborate with special interests to prevent this situation from being corrected, I hereby submit my resignation as chairman of the ports assets company”.
 
In his letter Tichon also wrote thathe recommended that the attorney general,Menachem (Meni) Mazuz, the state comptroller, Micha Lindenstrauss, and even the police look very closely at an audit report that discloses serious flaws in the company's management.
 
Port sources said following the resignation that Tichon had resigned knowing that the company board which was scheduled to meet last week would decide to fire him. Relations between Tichon and CEO Amos Ron were known to have been tense, and they had been worsening recently.
 
In a press conference last week to announce his resignation, Tichon said, "Never in my public career have I came across such standards of conducts as those in the Ports Authority".
 
Tichon added that "From the moment I took over the job as chairman of the board, I had the impression that there were attempts to involve me up with some scandal with which I had no connection." Tichon appologized to the 110 company's employees for leaving the company earlier than expected.
