After 50 years during which the Haifa grain silo was operated by messers “Dagon”, a group consisting of two local companies, the Chimobil group and Lo-Gi trade & industry ltd. have won the bid published by the Port Authorities to operate the Haifa grain silo, the largest grain silos in Israel.
The winners of the tender in which 5 groups which passed the pre-qualification stage participated will operate the silo for a ten years period, beginning in 1st February 2005.
The Haifa grain silo ( with an annual turnover of NIS 60 millions ) handles more than 2.8 million tons of grains annually representing some 75% of total amount of grains imported to Israel.
Mr. Amos Ron Director General of The Israeli Ports Authority estimated that due to a major restructure of the silo’s handling tariff, adopted by the Port Authority, there will be an annual saving of over NIS 20 millions in costs of importing grain to Israel.
