China Shipping, through its local agent in Israel – "Intermaritime", will begin a new weekly round the world container service which will serve the Far East, Israel, ports in the Terranean sea and North America.
The new "fix day" service will operate 9 containerships each with TEU 4,200 capacity.
The new service, known as AMAX, will departs from ports in east China and call at the port of Haifa on Tuesdays. From Haifa the ships will call at Naples, Genoa, Barcelona and will continue to Halifax, New York, Norfolk and Savanna.
The service will offer a transit time of 13 days from Haifa to Halifax and 14 days to New York. The first ship CSCL Vancouver will arrive Haifa on august 9th .
Shipping circles in Israel have pointed out that the new service will provide highly attractive service from Israel to North America. They noted that Zim lines which had a virtual monopoly in the Israel - North America service, will be mostly affected by the new weekly service.
