The new war risk surcharge has been increased from US$9 to US$36 per TEU. Mr. Schaefer: The war is over
Mr. Gad Schaefer, Chairman of the Israeli Shippers Council, reacted strongly last week following the announcement made by Zim integrated shipping services Ltd. to quadruple its war risk surcharge for both importers and exporters at the Ashdod Port.
The new war risk surcharge has been increased from US$9 to US$36 per TEU and from US$18 to $72 per FEU.
In a press release Schaefer noted that the war was over, hence there was no reason to apply higher war risk surcharges.
Following the War Risk increase and in order to decrease, as much as possible, financial burden on companies the Federation of Israeli International Freight Forwarders and Customs Clearing Agents send an official request to the Customs directorate asking to wave the new war risk surcharge from the value for customs purposes.
