The Grimaldi Group is represented in Israel by Allalouf & Co. Shipping Ltd.

The first shipment of rolling stock for the Jerusalem light railway arrived last week at Ashdod port. The rolling stocks were unloaded at the port from Grimaldi Group RoRo ship Grande Mediterraneo.

The present shipment consisted of 2 cars which were loaded at the port of Antwerp on two specially designed Mafi trailers. Each car carries twice the number of passengers as a bus, and weighs between 24 and 33 tons. Each carriage is 12-16 meters long.

The railway cars were built by France’s Alstom SA which owns 20% of City Pass, the consortium building the Jerusalem light rail. A spokesman for Allalouf & Co. noted that over the coming weeks, 46 more deliveries of 92 pieces of rolling stock are due to arrive for the Jerusalem light rail.

The Jerusalem light rail project has been delayed by a dispute between City Pass and the municipality over building permits.
