Haifa Labor Court: port workers will pay NIS 1,000 each, per hour on strike

In a first of its kind decision the Haifa Labor Court ruled that for every hour of strike or sanctions conducted by the Haifa port workers from now on, the workers will each be personally liable to a fine of NIS 1,000.
Court ruling went even further noting that after 12 hours of striking, the fine will go up to NIS 1,500 an hour, per worker. On the Friday before the decision was given the court ordered port workers not to interfere with the proper running of the port. Despite the decision, the port management had claimed that the employees continued to seriously disrupt port operations.
 
The Labor Court ruling came after a petition had been submitted by the port's management, asking the Labor Court to rule that the workers and the Histadrut Labor Federation in the Haifa region were in contempt of court by not following a previous court ruling.
 
Following the court decision the labor federation ordered port employees back to work. Haifa port directors expressed satisfaction with the court decision noting that they hope the port would return to normal working schedule.
