The company added that the port handles 70% of all container movements in Israel.
Mr. Amos Uzani, president of the port said that due to the increase in container movements the company is studying a proposal to increase its investment budget by NIS150.- which will enable the company to buy three more container gantry cranes at a cost of NIS 120.
Uzani added that the port company had targeted to handle TEU 2 millions annually ( in 2005 the company handled TEU 1.123 ) before the completion of the new Carmel Port.
Haifa Port: 15.4% increase in container movements in Q1
During the first quarter of 2006 it handled TEU 298,000, an increase of 15.4% compared to the parallel period last year (TEU 252,000), and 7% increase compared to the last quarter of 2005
