The German shipping company Hamburg Sd issued an announcement last week informing all Israeli shippers both in export and import that effective 15th May 2009 the company will not charge, until further notice, Congestion Surcharge at the ports of Haifa & Ashdod.

The statement noted that Congestion Surcharge will be at US$ 0 "Zero", per TEU. The "0" Surcharge will apply for both Southbound and Northbound shipments between Israel and North European ports.

The decision taken by Hamburg Sud is a direct result of the improved productivity and a much quicker turn around in both Haifa and Ashdod
