The new terminal will have a marshaling yard consisting of six lines as well as an operational station with three lines and will be connected to the national railway system
Israel Ports Development & Assets Company Ltd. (IPC) issued last week a tender for the building of new rail terminal at the port of Ashdod. The idea is to build the new terminal east of the new Eitan port.
In a statement issued by IPC the company said that the finance for the new NIS 130 million project would be jointly raised by IPC and Israel Railway Company. The new terminal will have a marshaling yard consisting of six lines as well as an operational station with three lines.
The new terminal, once completed, will be connected to the national railway system. The new terminal will not only allow faster cargo handling but will also improve the quality of cargo to and from the port of Ashdod.
Israel Railway serves as an overland bridge between the ports of Haifa and Ashdod. Freight handling operations by the Israel Railway significantly reduces the overload on the roads, and thus contributes to the achievement of other national objectives, suchas: reducing the number of road accidents and improving the quality of life, safety and environmental quality.
