Poti's man-made harbor is regarded as Georgia's principal port. It carries more cargo because of its rail links to Tbilisi. Altogether, nine berths can process as much as 100,000 tons of general cargo, 4 million tons of bulk cargo, and 1 million tons of grain per year.

The Israel Ports Company offered the poti port management to assist in the construction of a new container terminal. Ron added that port of Poti's management showed interest in the ports reforms as well as in the development of the new container terminal at the port of Ashdod.

Both side will sign a memorandum of understanding within a few month during a visit to Poti of a high ranking israeli ports delegation to Georgia.
