In a press release issued by The Israel Ports Authority (IPA), the authority said that during January – November 2004 it registered a 7% increase in cargo movements through its three main maritime gateways, compared to the same period last year.
 
During the 11 months period the authority handled 34 million tons of cargo. In the container sector the authority registered an increase of 3% to TEU 1.46 million.
 
The Israel Ports Authority (IPA), is an independent statutory entity which owns, operates and manages Israel’s commercial seaports in Haifa, Ashdod and Eilat.
 
Analysis of the published figures show that export was up by 5% to 14.5 million tons and import was up by 8% to 19.5 million tons.
 
Mr. Amos Ron director general of the authority said that based on the published figures and expected economic trends, the authority sees further increase in cargo movement throughout 2005. Next year, the authority will handle some 38.7 million tons.
