The fine was imposed by the Haifa District Court over dumping dredged material into the Mediterranean Sea against regulations during the construction of the Carmel "A" Port in 2008

Israel Ports Development & Assets Company Ltd.,has been fined NIS 100,000 for polluting the Haifa Bay area. The fine was imposed by the Haifa District Court over dumping dredged material into the Mediterranean Sea against regulations during the construction of the Carmel "A" Port in 2008.

Judges Yosef Alron, Dr. Adi Zarankin, and Moshe Gilad ruled that Israel Ports must pay a fine of NIS 100,000 in damages.

The work at the port required drying out several areas of the bay near the shore, and the company was given a special permit to dump some of the detritus dredged back into the sea. However, witnesses said that the company also dumped detritus in other areas where it was not authorized to do so. Local environmental groups filed a complaint with police.

The company admitted it had illegally dumped the material.
