Israeli ship agents which fully comply with international criteria, are now able to gain the Federation of National Associations of Ship Brokers and Agents (FONASBA) Quality Standard.

The Quality Standard (QS) intends to assists shipowners and operators to identify those agents and brokers who are well-funded and demonstrate a tangible commitment to quality. This will ensure a specific level of knowledge and experience as well as financial standing of their selected representative.

The QS was initially launched in October 2007 and includes a regular audit controlled by national associations and overseen by FONASBA to ensure that the required criteria are maintained.

Dr. Yoram Sebba, President of the Chamber of Shipping of Israel noted that by providing the maritime industry with a robust, enforceable and practical Quality Standard, FONASBA has helped ensure that the activities, responsibilities and liabilities of agents and brokers is subject to scrutiny.

The Chamber of Shipping of Israel is an association representing maritime shipping entities in Israel and playing an important role in the maritime transport, trade and tourism industries.

Sebba expressed his gratitude to Christakis P. Papavassiliou, past president of the Federation of National Associations of Shipbrokers and Agents and the President of Cyprus – Israel Business Association, for his contribution which enabled Israeli ship agents to participate in the Quality Standard program.
