Jordanian trade via the port of Haifa doubled in 2004.
In a press release issued last week Haifa port management emphasized that during 2004 the port experienced 51% increase in motor vehicles moving through the port, from 3,101 in 2003 to 4,692 in 2004.
In the container sector, the port experienced an impressive 602% growth from TEU 43 in 2003 to TEU 302 in 2004. In the general cargo sector the port experienced 244% growth from 197 MT in 2003 to 678 MT in 2004.
Mr. Mendy Zaltsman, director general of the port, said that at a meeting held with Jordanian customers at the Jordan river border crossing, the Jordanians expressed their high satisfaction from services rendered by the port and added that as the situation in Iraq stabilizes, they expect more cargo to be moved via Haifa.
