Haifa City Council approved the recommendation of a municipal committee to award the city prestigious Haifa Award of Merit (Yakir Haifa) to Israel's Chamber of Shipping President Dr. Yoram Sebba, for his accomplishments on behalf of Haifa.

Haifa City Council selects annually, 12 men and women over the age of 65, for the prestigious Haifa Award of Merit in gratitude of the community for their contribution to the society.

Among the reasons the select committee noted were: Sebba was involved in creating and pioneering Zim container service and opposed the ideas to move the company to the center and contributed to the academic institutions in Haifa. In addition the committee noted that he served as Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University of Haifa and the Technion's governing bodies.

The award ceremony will be held at the beginning of July.

Dr. Yoram Sebba served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Zim Integrated Shipping Services Ltd. and as Vice Chairman of Zim Integrated Shipping Services Ltd. Dr. Sebba holds a B.Sc. in Industrial Management Engineering, an M.Sc. in Operations Research and a D.Sc. Operations Research from the Technion - The Israel Institute of Technology.
