About 25 protestors, members of the "Block the Boat" group, gathered early morning October 11th at the entrance to Port Tampa Bay, to prevent Israeli shipping company Zim from unloading.
The gathering had been mostly peaceful. Protesters were unsuccessful in delaying the arrival of the "Zim Alabama" container vessel at the Port of Tampa Bay, though demonstrations against the Israeli-owned carrier are beginning to spread to more U.S. ports.
According to local reports, dockworkers from ILA Local 1402 crossed the picket line and the "Zim Alabama" was processed in a timely manner.
The "Block the Boat" Tampa campaign began just a few months ago, but the number of protesters in support are growing. Organizers said they had twice as many people in attendance this time. Zim Integrated Shipping Services, based in Israel, is among the largest cargo shipping companies in the world.
According to records, the "Zim Alabama" flies the flag of the Marshall Islands serves Zim's Caribbean Gulf Express (CGX) with stops in Caucedo, Jamaica, New Orleans, Mobile, New Orleans, Houston and Tampa.
