The ship which is claimed to be the largest containership in the world was named after the 78 years old Ester Diamant a director of MSC Israel
 
MSC Esthi a 9,200 TEU capacity, 365 meters long ship was handed over last week by Samsung Heavy Industry to Mediterranean Shipping Company S.A. (MSC).


MSC deployed the ship immediately after the handing over ceremony in its Silk express service ( far east to Europe) , where it replaced the smaller MSC Lucy. 
 

The ship which is claimed to be the largest containership in the world was named after the 78 years – old Ester Diamant a director of MSC Israel. Mrs. Diamant is related to Luigi Aponte the president and owner of MCS.
 
As of early June '06, MSC was operating 300 container vessels world-wide with an intake capacity of 908,500 TEUs.
 
Mr. Edni Simkin, director general of MSC Israel said after the hand over ceremony that MSC's decision to name the ship MSC Esthi, shows MSC's commitment to the Israeli market and the importance of MSC Israel to the company's world wide shipping operations.
