The new upgraded shipping service offers transit time of 10-12 days from Israel to Duress, via Gioia Tauro
MSC announced last week its decision to upgrade shipping services to the port of Durrכs. Durres is Albania's main coastal port, handling 85% of the country's international maritime traffic.
It is also a key component of South East Europe's regional infrastructure network due to its position at one end of the Pan-European Transport Corridor VIII, connecting Durres to Tirana to Sofia and to Vienna.
Corridor VIII links the Albanian port of Durres to Varna (Bulgaria) via Tirana, Kaftan, Skopje, Deve Bair, Sofia, Plovdiv and Burgas. The corridor is part of the pan-European networks (PAN), a global project set up to help develop former members of the Soviet block and bind them to the European economy.
The port has a total quay length of 2,205 meters, including 11 berths, which handle four main operations: general and bulk cargo, ferry terminal, oil terminal, and container terminal. Container operations are currently conducted at one berth. The new upgraded shipping service offers transit time of 10-12 days from Israel to Duress, via Gioia Tauro.
Durres is close to the Italian port of Gioia Tauro (on Italy's toe). The MSC vessels that calls on Durres are feeder vessels that offers non-stop 2-day service to the Italian port of Gioia Tauro, which is a major Mediterranean port at which MSC containersare transloaded from feeder ships to the MSC containerships.
