Maersk Line: Transatlantic and Mediterranean - General Rate increase

The company noted that "Trading conditions for the carriers operating in these markets are subject to unacceptable rate levels

As part of the rate restoration program announced at the end of 2009 on the Atlantic Trades, Maersk Line re-announce last week a General Rate Increase for 1 April, 2010. This includes cargo moving in both directions between USA and Canada from/to Europe, the Mediterranean and Black Sea. The increase will be USD 400 per 20' and USD 500 per 40' dry and reefer container.

The company noted that "Trading conditions for the carriers operating in these markets are still subject to unacceptable rate levels and the situation is unsustainable in the longer term. The rate increase is necessary to continue to operate our services with the high level of reliability our customers have come to expect from Maersk Line."
