Mano Cruise may anchor in Greece or Cyprus as port fees rise

The Haifa Port said its fee schedule is set by the finance and transportation ministries

Mano Cruise Israel’s leading cruise line company, is seriously considering anchoring and repairing its passenger ships during the winter off-season in Greece instead of Israel.

The reason is the over 300% increase in port's anchorage fees in Israel, part of the port reforms introduced in October 2010.

Moshe Mano President & Group Chairman said that the company was scheduled to dock two cruise ships in Haifa next month for maintenance and repairs, as it does every year.

Mano noted that the total cost for the work and dockage fees is around NIS 15 million for the winter. The company says it can save hundreds of thousands of shekels by switching the maintenance and repairs to Greece or Cyprus.

The Haifa Port said its fee schedule is set by the finance and transportation ministries. "We lowered the prices for Mano Cruise for the summer season as much as we could," said the port.

Mano offers a wide range of cruises on luxurious passenger ships. Cruises range from three days to a week and two weeks, sailing to various destinations in the Mediterranean, the Black Sea and Europe.
