According to information released by the Israel Ports Authority, over 50 candidates already applied for the job of director of the independent Ashdod Port.
The Ashdod and Haifa ports are about to become independent state-owned corporations in February 2005. The port reform will eliminate the Israel Ports Authority. The Port authority will be replaced by three independent companies that will manage the ports and their assets.
The filing deadline for Ashdod was last week and the filing deadline for Haifa position is in two weeks time.
Since the companies have not yet started to operate, the Government Companies Authority is conducting the screening process for the future CEO.
It is understood that the current directors of the ports, Mandy Salzman of Haifa and Shaul Rotem of Ashdod, are interested to retain their CEO positions.
The list of candidates for the Ashdod CEO position include, according to the authority, some well-known figures from the business world and the shipping sector in israel.
