Mr. Meir Shitrit, The Minister of Transport paid a two hours visit (24/8) to the port of Ashdod and to the new Hayovel port which is being built north of the Ashdod port.
During the visit the minister was taken to see pier 23 with its new gantry cranes.
In his address to the management of the port the minister was hopeful that the new terminal will be operational by the end of this year as originally planned by the government.
The Minister also directed the port to examine the possibilities of setting up a passenger dedicated terminal to serve the growing number of tourists arriving by sea for short periods of time to visit Jerusalem.
