The executive board of the ports authority held an emergency meeting to decide upon immediate steps to be taken to find satisfactory answers for the short and long term influx of cargo created by the ports workers strike during July & August.

Among the steps the management was authorized to cancel holidays, call in pensioners, recruit new labor and clear imported containers to less crowded storage areas in nearby container freight stations.

The executive board headed by Mr. Dan Tichon Chairman and Mr. Amos Ron, Director General were firm to have the ports return to normal working procedure in the shortest time possible.
The board decided:

- To reach a contractual agreement with two container freight stations near the port of Ashdod to which the port will transfer imported containers in order to clear operational areas on the port container quay, to enable the absorption of new imported units. NIS 1 million was budgeted for the operation.

- To address Zim Line to clear as many transshipment containers as possible from the port of Haifa, to allow more free space at the port. In addition NIS (New Israeli Shekels) 800 million were budgeted by the executive board for the transfer of containers to the nearby Kishon Port and to Container Freight Stations.

- Recruiting new labor force for both ports.

- Calling up pensioners to assist the existing labor force.

- Cancellation of holidays.

- Purchase of 4 new RTG trans-tainers for the  port of Haifa.
