Palestinian delegation underlined the importance of enhancing joint cooperation that would help find alternatives for the Palestinian economy
A high ranking delegation from the Palestinian Shippers' Council (PSC) consisting of freight forwarders, importers and exporters opened last Tuesday negotiations with Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) and Aqaba Development Company (ADC) to find ways to boost Palestinian trade through Aqaba Port.
Chairperson of the PSC, Maha Abu Shosha, said that the visit to Aqaba aimed at taking a closer look at the logistics potentials in Aqaba and how fit they were to receive Palestinian cargo.
The 30 members delegation underlined the importance of enhancing joint cooperation that would help find alternatives for the Palestinian economy, which suffers from the Israeli security procedures.
CEO of ADC Imad Fakhoury said there would be a number of advantages for shipping Palestinian goods via Aqaba, which has a sea port and open-sky airport that would allow any shipper to import goods through sea or air without the need of permissions. He added that Palestinian goods moved via port of Aqaba will be granted up to 40% discount.
Deputy Commissioner of ASEZA Bilal Al Bashir briefed the Palestinian delegation on the available investment opportunities and facilitations in Aqaba, which is a tax-free zone that ensures free movement of money.
