Plada estimates the increase will cost importers and exporters an additional NIS 25 million this quarter
Zvi Plada, the chairman of the transport committee of the Manufacturers Association, issued last week a strong statement against Zim integrated shipping services following the latter's quadrupling its war risk surcharge for both importers and exporters at the Ashdod Port.
The new war risk surcharge is $36 per container.
Plada added that since Zim integrated shipping services is a market leader in the Israeli trade there was no doubt that other shipping companies would follow suit.
He also said the reason was an increase in insurance rates by the insurance market war committee in London due to the war in Gaza.
Plada estimates the increase will cost importers and exporters an additional NIS 25 million this quarter.
