Amos Ron, CEO of the Israel Ports Company, said last week that the long awaited port fees reform which was planned to go into effect last year, will not go into effect before the end of 2006 - some two years behind schedule.
According to Ron the ports reform which was implemented early last year has proved itself. He added that the reform which aim was to creat competition among Israel's three main maritime gateways, has resulted in significant shorter waiting times for loading and unloading vessels.
At Ashdod Port, vessels' waiting time had fallen by 26%, from 11.8 hours to 8.7 hours, and at Haifa Port, waiting time dropped 18%, from 6.7 to 5.5 hours.
