In 2007 the port handled TE808,697. Intotal, the port handled 16.2 million tons of cargo, up 7.2% compared to the previous year.
The report also noted that in 2007 the port handled 90,946 vehicles, up 20.5% compared to 2006.
2007 was the first year that 50% of all vehicles imported were unloaded at the port of Ashdod.
Number of passengers was168,462, an increase of 70% compared to 2006.
2007 was, according to the port, the first year that over 60% of all passengers arriving to Israel came through the port.
Mr. Shuki Sagis, director general of the port said in a press release that 2007 was a successful year during which the port managed to overcome many operational obstacles allowing the port to increase productivity.
