The port has increased its profit by 15% compared to 2011
The Ashdod Port posted record NIS 91million net profit in the first half of 2012, a 15% increase compared to the corresponding period last year, during which net profit was NIS 79 million. During the first six months total revenue was NIS563 million compared to NIS 577million during the corresponding period last year.
During the first six months the port recorded a 1% increase in container movements –TEU 606,000 compared to TEU 600,000 in the first six months of last year. In the general cargo sector the port handled 979,000 tons of cargo, compared to 1,127,000 during the corresponding period last year.
Based on the figures of the first six months the port held a market share of 60% in the general cargo sector, compared to 21% held by Israel Shipyards Port Ltd, 16% port of Haifa and 3% port of Ashdod. Compared to the first quarter, during the second quarter of 2012 the port recorded an increase of 16% in cargo moving through the port. Container movements were up 10% and general cargo up 45%.
During the eight months period January – August 2012 total cargo movements was 13,684,000 tons, an increase of 5.6% compared to 12,960,000 ton in the corresponding period last year. During same period total bulk cargo handled was 2,309,000 tons, an increase of 16.6% compared to 2,038,000 tons in the corresponding period last year. During August the port recorded 462,000 tons of bulk cargo, a monthly record.
