According to the report, 61,600 tourists arrived during the first five months of this year. The increase has been attributed to the changes in passenger ship's schedule bypassing Tunis, Egypt as well as Libya due to the civil unrest

 

Haifa Port Company Ltd. reported last week an increase in number of tourists arriving at the port during January – May 2011. According to the report, 61,600 tourists arrived during the first five months, a 110% increase compared to the corresponding period last year.
 
The increase, according to the report, is over and above the 2011's forecast submitted by the port in early January. The increase has been attributed to the changes in passenger ship's schedule bypassing Tunis, Egypt as well as Libya due to the civil unrest.
 
In a separate statement the port said that the number of tourists is expected to increase further in the coming months.
 
The statement noted thatafter they have shunned Israel due to security reasons, luxury cruises cruise vessels are now making a comeback to the portand expected to bring thousands of visitors to Israel in coming months.
