The Port of Haifa adopted in recent months, a passenger oriented service philosophy which, according to the port management, provides an increasingly better service to tourist boarding passenger-ships at the port of Haifa.

Within the framework of the better passenger service philosophy, the port invested in the development of a fully computerized passenger control system to avoid pick pressures and allow passengers to board the ships at a much shorter period than before. The new system allows the port to know at all times the rate of passenger arrivals thus doing away with bottlenecks and congestions that previously delayed boarding.

The new system works on the basis that passengers arrive 3 hours before sailing time. On arrival to the passenger terminal the check in is carried out at 12 check in desks, staffed and operated by the ship agent’s personnel.

At the end of the check in process the system issues a computerized boarding card. Each card carries a passenger registration number. Once 50 passengers completed their check in process, the system creates a boarding group which are allowed to go on board.
